On a cool but humid Sunday night, in front of a national TV audience (hosted by Al & John) The Jaguars hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers. We even met Steelers owner Dan Rooney! The Jaguars have had the best of this series as of late winning winning four in a row.

On  the Steelers opening drive,  Rashean Mathis intercepted Ben Roethlisberger for a 72 yard “pick 6″ which fired up the crowd. On the Steelers next drive they were aided by a late hit penalty and they scored on 1 yard touchdown pass to Heath Miller. On the Jaguars next possession, they got a big break on a 39 yard pass interference call which set them up at the Steelers 1 yard line, and on the next plat Maurice Drew Jones scored 6.  The end of the first quarter Jaguars 14 Steelers 7.

The second quarter started with the Steelers driving right back down the field and  Jeff Reed booting 38 yard field goal. The Jaguars go 4 and out and the Steelers throw a 48 yard touchdown bomb to Nate Washington.  The Steelers also get another 23 yard field goal from Jeff Reed for a halftime lead  of  20 to 14.

Both teams go scoreless in 3rd quarter and the Jaguars finally get a break on a penalty which sets up 24 yard touchdown pass to Mercedes Lewis. The Steelers respond with a 8 yard touchdown to Hines Ward. The Steelers defense closes the deal and they hold on to win .

This is a devastating loss for the “Jag-e’s”, who fall four games behind the Titans and a game behind the Colts. They still face both these clubs at home and must win both games to stay in playoff hunt.

JAGUARS - COLTS

Posted by Paul Hollywood

The Jaguars won the opening coin toss and for the second week in a row deferred possession to the second half. And like last week, when Buffalo marched downfield and scored, so did the Indianapolis Colts. Marvin Harrison was the lucky recipient and scored on a 4 yard touchdown. On the Jaguars first possesion they went 3 and out and looked bad in doing so. Both teams defensives held on their next possession and at the end of the first quarter the Jaguars had a good drive going that carried over into the next quarter, in which they scored on a 26 yard field goal.

On the Jaguars next possesion they had a nice drive with Maurice Jones Drew carving up the Colts defense. But the drive stalled on a failed 4 and 2 play by Fred Taylor. The Colts returned the favor until Rashean Mathis made an interception which resulted in a 61 yard touchdown for the Jags. On the Colts next possession they marched 74 yards and scored on a 3 yard Joseph Addai touchdown. The Jaguars opened the third quarter with a long drive which ended with an interception by Kelvin Hayden. With good field position the Colts drove down field and with Joseph Addai running the rock until Peyton Manning threw an interception to Jaguars defensive back Brian Williams.

The Jaguars took advantage of this turnover by driving down field on a big rushing play by Fred Taylor and set up a 6 yard touch down run by Maurice Jones Drew. The Jaguars defense holds the Colts on thier next possesion and the 3rd quarter ends Jaguars 17 Colts 14.

The 4th quarter the Jaguars have thier best drive of the game(and so far this season) as they burn up 12 minutes off the clock, but they only score a 21yard Josh Scobee field goal left the door open for Payton Manning to march down the field in less than 2 minutes to score on a 3 yard td run by Joseph Addai.

The stage is now set for the ultimate fantastic finish. The Jaguars now have just 60 seconds to march down to the Colts 35 yard line - close enough for Josh Scobee to kick the game winning 51 yard field goal. Final score - Jaguars 23 Colts 21

“all & all it was a good game!”

JAGUARS-TITANS

Posted by Paul Hollywood

On a perfect sunny day the Jaguars and Titans kicked off their 2008 NFL seasons. The Jaguars have  had a lot of bad history with the Titans  and on the first series after a great kick off return the Jags went three and out. The Titans  moved the ball  well on their first possession  but the drive stalled and resulted in a  48 YD Rob Bironas field goal. On the next series another three and out as Titans early domination on defense very impressive against the Jaguars. The Jaguars defense held the Titans and on the next series the Jaguars  offense finally got in sync driving down the field and even converting on 4th down. The drive stalls on two back to back penalties and two players leaving with injuries. On the next Titans posesion a penalty  and an interception by Gerald Sensabaugh which set up the Jaguars 1 YD tochdown pass from David Gerrard to Gregg Jones. The Jaguars defense holds the Titans to three and out and a great kickoff return to the Titans 34 YD line. Penaltiies again plague the Jags and good field position goes to waste. On next drive Vince Young finally opens it up with a  75 yard drive with two passes to Chris Johnson for a 7  yard TD. The next Jaguars drive goes well until a bungled snap results in a Jaguars turnover. Halftime score Titans 10 Jaguars 7. The Titans and Jaguars play battle of field possesion in second half  with the jaguars missing a 37 yd field goal attempt which looked good to me. Both teams defenses stepped up with neither team offenses being able to put any long drives together in 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter remained pretty much the same with both defenses dominating line of scrimage causing turn overs and  quarterback sacks. Vince Young has to leave game with 4:14 remaining replaced by Kerry Collins and tight end Bo Scaife made a big play to set up the next Titans touchdown  score a 1 yd tochdown  by LenDale White. The Jaguars scored another field goal  The defences took over in the end the Jaguars end up on short end Titans 17  Jaguars 10.

After four weeks at number 1, Batman The Dark Knight finally was knocked to the number 2 spot by the new Ben Stiller comedy Tropic Thunder. The comedy which also stars Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr took in an estimated 26 million over the weekend and 37 million total since it’s release on Wednesday. The Dark Knight still took in an impressive 16.7 million to give it a five week total of 471 million. This weeks other new movie Star Wars The Clone Wars opened to a below expectation amount.

JAGUARS-DOLPHINS

Posted by Paul Hollywood

Tonights game featured the Dolphins debut of Chad Pennington. The first possession of both teams was 3 and out, the next series the Dolphins fared better as Ricky Williams got a first down rushing ,followed by a first down catch by Ted Ginn. Following a penalty Williams got another first down and then a rushing touchdown.

Ricky Williams looked as good in that drive as he did 5 years ago. On the next possession the Jaguars drove down the field but the drive stalled on 51 yard missed field goal by Josh Scobie. On the next series the Dolphins marched down the field with another big pass play Pennington to Ginn .The drive stalled and the Dolphins had to settle for a 31 yd field goal by rookie Dan Carpenter. The Jaguars offense seemed out of sync and went for mid field 4th down play and was stopped. The Dolphins took over in great field position but went 3 and out.

David Garrard moved the ball right down the field and seemed to have a TD pass to Greg Jones only to have it called back for going out of bounds at the 3 yard line. Two plays latter Maurice Drew Jones went up the middle only to fumble the ball out of the end zone for a touch back.

The Dolphins ended the half with a 46 yard field goal by Dan Carpenter. In a lackluster third quarter Dan Carpenter of Dolphins added another field goal at 3:33 to make the score Dolphins 16 Jags 0. In summary Chad Pennington’s Dolphin debut was impressive , Ricky Williams looked as he was back and Jack Del Rio can not be pleased with his teams poor effort from his starters. Todd Bauman passed for two late touchdowns. Final score Dolphins 19 Jaguars 14.

Last night Dolphins head coach Tony Sporano was very happy with what he saw in his young team and Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio could not be happy with his veteran team. Chad Pennington moved his team very efficiently after a 3 and out first series. He made key 1st down passes to Ted Ginn and Ricky Williams was also very effective in rushing the ball for 1st down yardage and he also scored a rushing touchdown. Jacksonville offense sputtered most of the night and the most impressive drive of the first half by David Garrard was fumbled for a touch back by Maurice Drew Jones. Todd Bauman threw for two 4th quarter touchdowns but when the potential starting teams were in the Dolphins were the more impressive team. Final Score Dolphins 19 Jaguars 14

Republican Nonsense

Posted by Paul Hollywood

The premise that the world is safer with a Republican President is a joke. As Russia invades Georgia all we can do is hope they will not go any farther than they already have. The idiots on conservative talk radio (Sean, Rush and Bill O’ Reilly ) will have you believe that the world is a safer place with Republican Leadership. With all of are troops exhausted in Afghanistan and Iraq we can only hope Russia isn’t eying any other countries or territories to conquer.

In a very good first quarter for a pre-season game the Jaguars took a 7-0 first quarter lead. David Garrard scored a rushing touchdown and 22 yards total rushing in first quarter. Maurice Jones Drew also had 23 yards on 5 attempts. We saw the debut of Atlanta Falcons rookie QB Matt Ryan who was a respectable 2 of 4 for 13 yards. In the second quarter Matt Ryan took all the snaps as he lead his team to a game tying 25 yard touchdown pass to Roody White. The Jaguars took the lead on a 37 yard Josh Scobee field goal. Cleo Lemon was 4 for 8 for 29 yards. In the 3rd quarter Lemon drove the team to a 2 yard touchdown run by Chauncey Washington for a 17-7 lead. Joey Harrington was unimpressive in his first 3rd quarter possession , the Jaguars fumbled the ball deep in their own territory and Harrington still couldn’t get them in end zone and they settled for a 37 yd Jason Elam field goal. Joey Harrington scored a controversial 1 yd TD. In 4th quarter Josh Scobee scored a short FG. Jason Elam missed 2 short field goals as Jacksonville held on to win game.
